Acknowledge the previous leader, even if they were deemed poor, avoiding the blame game.
Create space for team frustrations and letting go of the past before moving forward.
Listen before acting. This may feel like doing nothing, but before you can do, you need to understand.
How are you going to lead differently? e.g. building trust, empathy, effective communication, new worthwhile ideas etc
Communicate the vision and goals...
Why we heading in this direction?
What I will do?
What I want you to do?
How we are going to go about it?
How we will hold one another to account?
Seek to remove the things and processes which got in the way before, providing effective resources for the team to feel and be empowered.
What are the quick wins which matter most? - Implement them through your team first.
Be clear & transparent. Keep everyone involved & informed with useful communication, not just soundbites or rehashes of words to make them sound different.
Celebrate success and own failures - together.
Know when it's time to go - Are your reasons for staying valid or just an excuse to cling on to power?
