Sleeve Notes
A word I use sparingly in coaching. It can be a bit confrontational when not used appropriately.
However, 'Why' can be very powerful when you have a goal you are perhaps not 100% certain of. For example asking yourself "Why am I doing this?" before you begin can help you affirm that this really is the goal you want to work towards.
Side 1 - Why... bother?
It's important to your happiness - Is this where you really want to be?
It's reminding you what's important - remember all those values and beliefs you have.
It's healthy - Challenging what you thought you should be doing.
It opens up your world to new possibilities - If you do what you've always done you'll get what you've always got.
It helps you to be honest with yourself and others.
It keeps your mind active - there is always something new to learn about yourself and the world around you.
It will make those around you happy - because you are happy.
You'll make a positive difference to others because you're doing something you love.
Side 2 - 'Why' leads to 'What'
What motivates you?
What have you always wanted to do?
What are your values and beliefs?
What do other people ask you for help with?
What will bring greater meaning to your life?
What are you going to stop/start/continue doing?
What do you want people to know you for having achieved this goal?
Side 3 - 'What' leads to 'How' and 'Who'
How are you going to bring this to life?
How will you spend your time?
Who will help you to feel energised & inspired?
Who will you get support from?
Side 4 - 'Where' & 'When'
Where do you see yourself in xxxx months time?
When will you meet with others to review your progress?
When will you start living the reality of your dream?
The Download
If you are asking yourself or working with a Coach, a well placed "why" can cut through the cr*p and get to whats really going on. It saves you time and focuses you on what is really important.
Time to put the bins out!
Please note. These are not my bins and I recycle too!
